JIDVEI

Jidvei is the largest wine producer in Romania, with over 6000 acres of vineyard situated in the heart of Transylvania

Wine

Jidvei is the most famous Romanian producer of premium dry and medium dry white wines. Based in the heart of Transylvania, Jidvei’s vineyards spread on more than 6000 acres alongside the Tarnave River, in one of the country’s oldest wine regions. Spread on over 2500 hectares of vineyard, the plantations are situated at an altitude between 200-500 meters high, most of them being situated on slopes with southern or south-eastern aspect, which ensure optimal ripening conditions for the vines. The area has a plateau continental climate, with an annual average temperature of +9.8 degrees Celsius and average rainfall of 610-640 mm. The dominant soil type is brown soil composed mainly of clay, marl and gravel. The varieties planted in Jidvei’s vineyards are mostly white, both indigenous (Feteasca Alba, Feteasca Regala) and international (Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Chardonnay, Traminer, Pinot Grigio, Riesling etc). Due to the average temperature’s increase in the past few years and to the technical developments that allow planting at altitudes over 400 meters, some black grape varieties found their place in Jidvei’s vineyard: Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
