SARL SADEL – Family Run Wine Business from France

08/01/2019

Sarl Sadel is a family run winery and vineyard, owned by oenophile Alexandre Sadel at Bordeaux, France.

At SADEL Family, they believe in the art and skill passed on through generations of winemakers. These are all knowledge derived directly from the experience and refinement of the processes used, which they wish to inspire. That's why they chose to install their estate in the vineyards of Montagne-Saint-Emilion, in the Bordeaux region, surrounded by large castles. The know-how of their House is chaired by three fundamental principles, guaranteeing the exceptional quality of their wines. First, they select each parcel and each varietal to ensure the individual follow-up necessary for the development of each wine. Then, their Chef de Caves collaborates for each cuvée at the birth of a new masterpiece, whose assembly guarantees the complexity. Finally, each vintage is vinified and raised with patience and kindness.

To understand the origin of SADEL Family, take the direction of the famous town of Saint-Emilion, where they installed their first cellar. Passionate about terroir, viticulture and wine, Alexandre SADEL also remains and above all open to the world. A fervent supporter of sports initiatives and patron of artists, Alexander SADEL brings back from his many trips a better knowledge of the expectations and preferences of consumers from all regions of the world. At Vacqueyras and Saint Emilion, the company can then meet these new expectations. From the cultivation of the vine to the ageing of the wines, through the selection of grape varieties or soil cultivation, Famille SADEL, a producer and trader, reconciles this art of viticulture with an increasingly demanding era.

Each wine has an individuality of its own, each plot has a specific identity, and the role of their oenologist, Eugenia German, is to make it speak. In order to select the best parcels, it is necessary every year to have the eyes riveted in the sky. Indeed, the best vintages are born especially of ideal climatic conditions. They are the ones who will make the quality of the grapes, for a perfect balance between the alcoholic maturity and the phenolic maturity of the grains. In order to maintain the same quality of production over the years, the knowledge of each of their parcels and the way in which they evolved during the year is important. It allows us to make assemblies to the perfect balance so that each production is exceptional.

Precise knowledge of the soils and climates of each terroir is, therefore, necessary for the realization of a wine. The choice of grape also plays a crucial role: it is selected according to the climatic zone of maturity where it will be planted. It depends on the quality of the final creation, the wine of the year. Within the same terroir, each plot may have reacted differently to the past seasons. A slope more or less inclined or sheltered from the wind, a stronger rain on one side or the other of the way, and the magic formula of their wine is changed. The grandeur of vintage is sometimes played on these minute details that are not lost in the eyes of the best oenologists.

At the long-awaited time of the harvest, the characteristics of the wine to be born begin to appear. The harvest takes place with a careful look, and each grain is selected for its quality.

It is precisely thanks to this thorough knowledge of each grape variety, of each parcel of their wines and the history of their different soils to the depths of their soils, that the blending can take place. When the Cellar Master is assembling a great wine, imagine his work as the creation of the finest perfumes. It is a question of harmonizing different fragrances, of making the flavours resonate with each other and come to create a unique final flavour, endowed with absolutely unique aromas.

It takes many years of experience to balance a wine, to create a more complex flavour in the mouth, thanks to ideally complementary grape varieties. There is a search for the absolute that is almost impossible to reach and that one thinks of being touched when a wonderful vintage is born.

The strength of their oenologist is his imagination: it must be able to catch a glimpse of the future cuvée, thanks to the only knowledge of the different grapes that compose it. The aromas are exchanged until they reach the perfect balance. Because it is indeed a real creation. Like the painter who adds touches of colour to his canvas with an assured hand, Eugenia German knows perfectly the wine traditions of the old continent. The blend sometimes takes place in the heart of the same grape, between its different varieties. The proportions must then be reflected very precisely, helped by an excellent knowledge of each vintage. The nuances are even more subtle when the blend brings together wines that have been reared separately for a definitively richer final result.sa

Vinification is a stage of production where patience is king. The work does not stop in the tank, far from it! The must ferments slowly, under the benevolent eye of the oenologist who oversees the creation of wine, guess the features of the new vintage. Tradition plays a big role here. It includes between its lines secret know-how, which gives birth to all the great French wines. Then the breeding of the wine can begin. It is in the hollow of the barrels that each cuvée begins to reveal its personality and the extent of its aromatic range. For the oenologist, true conductor, the challenge is to reveal the subtlety and flavour of the fruits. But perfection requires more patience! After final tastings, the wine can finally be bottled. If it is a wine guard, it may need years to reveal the true substance of his soul.
