Thornton Distilling Co.(TDC) is Illinois' only craft malt certified distillery with focus on American Single Malt Whisky. TDC is located 30 min south of Chicago in Illinois oldest standing brewery, built in 1857 atop an historic limestone filtered artesian well. During prohibition, the building was Al Capone's largest bootlegging facility in Chicagoland, but after prohibition fell into a state of disrepair. The building remained abandoned until 2015, when TDC started restoring the 20,000 sf structure. TDC now operates a distillery, tasting room, restaurant, and wedding event space from the historic site, using the same limestone filtered spring water that the pre-prohibition brewers utilized in the 1850's. TDC has been featured by CBS, WGN, NPR, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Suntimes, Artisan Spirit Magazine, & Midwest Living Magazine.
